Ornaments, cash worth Rs 7 cr stolen from jewellery shop

Gold ornaments, silver articles and cash together worth over Rs seven crore were stolen from a jewellery shop at Turaiyur, 40 km from here, police said. More than five kg of gold jewellery, 50 kg of silver and Rs 10 lakh in cash were found stolen by the owner when he opened the shop this morning, police said. The owner was also running a finance firm from his house behind the shop, they said. Police said the burglars had gained entry into the shop by breaking the lock. They said they had recovered a large bag of silver articles from a gutter near the shop and were ascertaining why the burglars had dumped it there.
