Over 1.25 kg of gold worth about 40 lakh was today seized from a passenger who arrived at Thiruvananthapuram international airport from a gulf nation, a top customs official said.
Air Intelligence Unit of Air Customs has effected seizure of 1265.76 gms of gold valued at Rs 39.36 lakh from the passenger, who arrived by an AirIndia Express Flight from Dubai, Customs Commissioner Sumit Kumar said.
The contraband gold was concealed in the form of a brown coloured paste material packed in a plastic cover which was ingeniously hidden underneath the passenger's underwear, he said in a release.
The passenger was arrested and investigation is in progress, Kumar said.
