In a written reply, Minister of State for Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Rao Inderjit Singh said these houses have been built under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) launched in June last year and earlier schemes of Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewable Mission (JNNURM) and Rajiv Awas Yojana (RAY), which are being continued till March next year.
"2,23,814 houses have been constructed for urban poor under the old and new housing programmes during the last two years," he said.
Singh said under PMAY (Urban) launched in June, the government has approved construction of over 8.54 lakh houses for the benefit of Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) with central assistance of Rs 12,602 crore.
Under JNNURM and RAY, construction of over 13.86 lakh houses was approved during 2005-14 of which 10.60 lakh dwelling units have been built so far.
To another query, he said as many as 25 cities in 8 states have prepared Comprehensive Mobility Plans (CMP) based on origin and destination flow of traffic, identifying major traffic corridors and feeder corridors and land use which would assist in proper urban planning.
In Karnataka, 14 cities have come out with CMPs, while five cities in Punjab, and one city each of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Meghalaya, Tripura and Rajasthan.
