ASI Dharambir Singh was yesterday allegedly thrashed by a group of farmers in Hansi, about 26 km from here, when distribution of urea in police post grain market was stopped for a while. The group also tore his uniform.
On the complaint of the ASI, the city police registered a case against Ram Niwas, resident of Sainipur village, Naresh of Kharar village, Rajesh of Dhani Qutubpur village and about 300 other unidentified persons for allegedly obstructing policemen from performing their duty, attack on police party with bricks and iron rods with an intention to kill them.
Meanwhile, a large group of farmers today staged a demonstration on Hisar-Delhi National Highway in Hansi near here demanding the immediate release of urea fertiliser, causing traffic jam for over an hour.
DSP Hansi Jai Bhagwan, SHO Prahlad Singh along with police force reached the spot and asked the farmers to clear the road. The farmers later lifted the blockade.
Speaking to reporters here, several farmers alleged that "traders have been hoarding urea which has created artificial scarcity in the state. We are not getting urea on time."
Meanwhile, Congress spokesperson Dharamvir Goyat said, "the BJP government had made tall promises to the farmers before the Assembly polls in Haryana including the promise to implement the recommendations of the Swaminathan Commission, but all of these remain a far fetched dream. Now, the government has even failed to meet their basic need of urea."
"BJP is anti-farmer and is ignoring their interests," Bishnoi said.
