Overcast skies keep mercury in check in Delhi

The national capital today witnessed overcast skies almost throughout the day, followed by strong winds in the evening which kept the mercury in check, even as overnight rains led to increase in humidity levels.

According to the Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, Delhi received 3.4 mm of rains till 8.30 am, while areas under Palam, Lodhi Road and Ridge observatories recorded 0.6 mm, 7.7 mm and 2 mm rains respectively during the same period.

Areas under Ayangar observatory recorded traces of rainfall till 8.30 am, a Meteorological department official said.

The maximum temperature settled at 37.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, while the minimum temperature was recorded at 26.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the average.

Humidity levels oscillated between 92 per cent and 57 per cent.

The weatherman has forecast overcast skies along with the moderate rains and gusty rain for tomorrow, while the maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover around 35 degrees Celsius and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius, while the minimum had settled at 26.2 degrees Celsius.
