Owner of local daily remanded to police custody

Editor-proprietor of a Tripura daily 'Dainik Ganadoot', Sushil Chowdhury, who was arrested in connection with the killing of three newspaper employees at his office was remanded to police custody for four days.
Chowdhury, who was admitted to Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) following cardiac problems on June 10 last and released yesterday, was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) last night which sent him to police remand for four days.
He would be produced before the same court on June 15.
Chowdhury was arrested on June 7 and remanded to judicial custody for three days for his alleged involvement in the killing of the newspaper employees on May 19 here.
The driver of the editor's vehicle, Balaram Ghosh, manager Ranjit Choudhury and proof reader Sujit Bhattacharjee were killed inside 'Dainik Ganadoot' building on May 19.
Meanwhile, The opposition Congress in Tripura today demanded probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on the plea that ruling CPI-M leaders were influencing the case.
Proper investigation would not be possible unless CBI inquiry was announced", Tripura Pradesh Congress President Sudip Roy Burman told reporters.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M), in a statement, denied the Congress allegations.
