PAC Chairman K V Thomas' remark that Prime Minister Narendra Modi could be called to appear before it over the issue of demonetisation is "wrong, unethical and against laid out Parliamentary procedures", its member Nishikant Dubey has said in a letter to Lok Sabha Speaker.
Dubey, a BJP MP, said the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman made the statement without consulting its members.
Thomas has said that PAC can call Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the issue of demonetisation if it is not satisfied with the answers given by top finance ministry officials and RBI Governor Urjit Patel, to whom a detailed questionnaire has been sent.
"The announcement by PAC Chairman Sh KV Thomas seeking to summon Prime Minister Sh Narendra Modi to appear before it is unilateral. Such an announcement is wrong and unethical, and against laid out parliamentary procedures," Dubey said in a letter to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan.
Dubey added that he is failed to understand how the PAC Chairman could make such an statement without discussing with the members of the committee.
A PAC meeting on this issue has been called on January 20 where RBI Governor Urjit Patel, Finance Secretary Ashok Lavasa and Economic Affairs Secretary Shaktikanta Das will be present.
