Pakistan's ruling party today said it will challenge an election tribunal ruling that unseated the country's railways minister and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's confidant for vote rigging in 2013 general elections.
Planning and Development Minister Ahsan Iqbal said that the Pakistan Muslim league-Nawaz (PML-N) has decided to challenge the election tribunal's decision against Khawaja Saad Rafique in the Supreme Court.
The decision was taken in a party meeting chaired by Sharif, Iqbal said.
"It was decided that not going to Supreme Court sets a dangerous precedent, where anyone can record a few irregularities to make the entire election void," he said.
The election tribunal had announced the decision after hearing a case against Rafique who was elected from NA-125 constituency in Lahore.
