A traffic constable was shot dead today in Pakistan's largest city while two others were injured.
Police said that the three traffic constables were in the Site industrial area when unidentified gunmen on motorcycles attacked from two sides opening fire on them.
The number of slain traffic policemen in target killings has now gone up to five since last week prompting fears that some militant groups might be active in a bid to destabilise the metropolitan city.
After two traffic constables were killed in a drive by shooting near the Safari park area of Gulshan-e-Iqbal area last Sunday the IG police had approved that traffic policemen should carry firearms on duty.
Police officials in the Counter Terrorism department of the Karachi police believe that the recent attacks on traffic policemen might be the work of some militant groups as a retaliatory measure against the operation going on in the city against them and criminals.
