Palaniswami, Stalin, hail half miler for bagging gold at Doha

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and Leader of the Opposition M K Stalin Tuesday hailed half miler Gomathi Marimuthu for bagging gold in the ongoing Asian Athletics Champions in Qatar.

The 30-year-old unheralded Gomathi had clocked a personal best time of 2 minute 02.70 seconds in the women's 800m race in Doha on Monday.

In a letter to Marimuthu, who hails from Tiruchirappally, Palaniswami lauded the sportsperson for her international feat and expressed joy over her winning the gold medal.

"I wish you participate in more such international tournaments and bring laurels to India and Tamil Nadu," he said.

Stalin, the DMK President, expressed joy over Marimuthu winning gold in the athletics event, saying she has made the country and the state proud.

"I extend my greetings to her to achieve bigger feat," he said in a tweet.

AMMK General Secretary TTV Dhinakaran and MDMK founder Vaiko also hailed the athlete for bringing laurels to the country.
