Panchganga river crosses warning level

Rains continued to hit normal life on the sixth consecutive day today in the district with Panchganga river flowing above warning level.
Traffic jam was reported on the six state highways as vehicles bunched up amid heavy to medium downpour.
According to district information officials, Radhanagari dam is already full and discharge from this dam on this morning was 7912 cusecs per second.
Water capacity in Warana dam will touch its full capacity very soon, thanks to adequate rains, they said.
Water level in Panchaganga river near Kolhapur city was recorded at 40 feet today, while the danger mark is at 43 feet. Flood water at present is rising at a speed of 2 inches per half an hour, officials said.
Meanwhile, 63 small bridges in the district and those flowing over nullahs have flooded throwing normal life out of gear.
Water storage in major dams till today was recorded as - Radhanagari 8.29 TMC, Warana 31.49 TMC (34.39), Dudhaganga 16.69 TMC, Tulashi 2.58 TMC.

Meanwhile, around 5.30 pm, water was released from Warana dam at the rate of 11,000 cusecs. Four gates of the dam were opened to discharge the water, district information office said.
District Collector Amitkumar Saini is keeping an eye on the flood situation and coordinating with the authorities concerned, it added.
