Union Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said Kashmiri Pandits constitute an important part of the composite culture of the Valley and the community has made a substantial contribution in several walks of life.
Minister for Health, Family Welfare and Water Resources, Azad was here to attend a function to commemorate centenary celebrations of Kashmiri Pandit Sabha organised at the police auditorium here.
On rehabilitation of Kashmiri Pandit families, which had to leave the Valley in 1990's after militancy spread in various parts of the region, Azad said the government is well abreast with their problems and is contemplating various programmes for their welfare.
He referred to the creation of Satellite Township at Jagti and assured more such welfare measures.
On the occasion, Kashmiri Pandit Sabha (Jammu) president K K Khosa said the organisation is an amalgam of various groups, which, since its formation in 1914 has evolved gradually as the focal point of all upliftment activities for Kashmiri Pandits in the state.
He said the Sabha over the years has focused on helping widows, orphans, the elderly and the specially-abled people of the community through various programs and rehabilitative efforts in coordination with other agencies.
