A Committee, set up by Doordarshan to review a small sample of programmes produced for DD Kashir, has reported that many of them were not of desired standards, the Government today said.
This information was shared by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore in the Rajya Sabha in a written response to a member's question.
When asked if an internal audit by Prasar Bharati in 2013 revealed almost 5,000 programmes produced for the channel between 2010 and 2012 were not telecast till October 2013, the Minister replied in affirmative.
Rathore said, "a Committee set up by DD reviewed a small sample of these programmes and reported that many of the programmes were not of the desired standards."
The Minister said as per the public broadcaster there are complaints with regard to fresh commissioning of programmes on DD Kashir.
"Prasar Bharati has informed that there are complaints with regard to fresh commissioning of programmes on DD Kashir and settlement of payment liabilities for some in-house productions. There also has been a complaint from some displaced persons seeking greater participation in programming," he said.
In a written reply to a separate question, Rathore said that Prasar Bharati had informed that there are 16,764 vacancies in All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan.
