The sub-committee of Parliamentary panel on rehabilitation of Jammu and Kashmir migrants today asked the state government to take concrete steps to implement Prime Minister's package for the rehabilitation and welfare of the Kashmiri migrants in the state.
"The state government should implement Prime Minister package. They should take concrete steps in the direction," chairman of PSC, Rajiv Partap Ruddy told reporters here today.
The committee, however, faced protests in Jammu by BJP and some local outfits.
BJP leader and lawyer S Arora, who was leading a delegation of lawyers, alleged that he was not given time to meet the delegation.
"It is a futile exercise, we have been ignored by authorities," he said.
Similar situation developed at the State Circuit house, where delegations of All Party Migrant Coordination Committee (APMCC) and Kashmiri Sikh Refugee Front resorted to anti-state government protests and tore memorandums, as they were allegedly kept waiting for hours.
The sub-committee, which was constituted to look into the implementation of 137th Report on the Rehabilitation of Jammu and Kashmir migrants, concluded its 3-day visit to the state today.
The sub-committee comprised of its chairman, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Naveen Jindal, co-chairman and members, Raman Deka, Neeraj Shekhar, Sanjus Kujar, Navneet Singh, E T Mohd Basheer and Shafiqur Rehman Burq, all Members of Parliament.
The members of the committee held an interactive meeting with the senior officers of the state administration and reviewed the relief package for the migrants here today.
The sub-committee urged the officers of the state government to pay special attention to improve the basic conditions of the migrant camps, like medicare, electricity, drinking water, sanitation, security, education, repair of flats and disbursement of timely relief, which were prominently highlighted by the migrants during the visits of the Committee.
The Committee also asked for expeditious completion of under construction accommodation for the migrant employees in the Valley. It asked the officers to create an environment to maintain constant liaison with the migrants in various camps to address their problems expeditiously.
The Committee also discussed the issues of Pok/Pak/West Pakistani and Chhamb refugees with the state administration and asked them to take necessary steps to address their problems.
Last evening, the Committee had visited migrant camps at Purkhu, Muthi, Buta Nagar and Jagti to make personal assessment of the conditions of migrants.
