Parents arrested for trying to bury alive toddler
Dinesh, a labourer, and his wife, Deepa, allegedly tried to bury their ailing infant yesterday after a tantrik advised them that the act would bring prosperity and wealth to their family.
On hearing the infant's cries, the couple's neighbours rushed to the spot and rescued the child and informed the police.
The duo, along with another relative who helped them, has been arrested, a senior police officer said, adding that a hunt has been launched for the absconding tantrik.
The baby has been sent to a child protection house in Meerut, he said.
