Indian-American golfer Bhavik Patel ended a disastrous weekend with a four-over 76 to finish tied 18th, a massive drop from the three-shot lead he had at the halfway stage, at the United Leasing and Finance Championship on the Web.Com Tour here.
Patel, who set a 36-hole record with rounds of 65 and 69, collapsed over the weekend with rounds of 74 and 76 and finished at four-under 284 after being 10-under 134 at the midway mark.
Patel had two doubles on each of the last two days as he threw away a chance to claim his maiden Web.Com Tour title. Seamus Power posted the only bogey-free round of the day Sunday (5-under 67) to become the first Irish winner ever on the Web.Com Tour, squeezing out a one-shot victory.
After posting 12-under in the third-to-last group to become the leader in the clubhouse, Power's chances seemed unlikely with Roger Sloan two shots ahead of him heading to the 17th and Cody Gribble a shot ahead as well with two to go. But that's when the dominoes started to fall.
Sloan put his tee shots in the water at each of the last two holes and made back-to-back bogeys. Cody Gribble then had a one-shot lead but made bogey at the 17th and hit it in the water over the green at 18 to allow Power to come-from-behind for his first ever Web.Com Tour title.
Power was a last man standing of sorts, the only player in the final groups to adequately conquer the difficult 17th and 18th holes.
