Over 10,000 lawyers of Patna High Court abstained from work for the second day today to protest against new rules pertaining to filing of cases and demand construction of new building for better sitting arrangements for advocates.
The lawyers' agitation, called by the Coordination Committee of three associations of the Patna High Court lawyers, got a major boost today with the Bihar State Bar Council extending support to it.
The meeting of the Bihar State Bar Council today backed demands of the Coordination Committee for cancelling the new rules in the filing of petitions and construction of a new building to facilitate proper sitting arrangements for lawyers, its chairman A M C Shrivastava said.
Former President of Bar Council of India Suraj Narayan Prasad Sinha, Rajendra Singh and Yogesh Chandra Verma were among others who participated in the council meeting.
The HC administration recently came up with new rules which made it mandatory for lawyers to stand in queque for rectifying the defects which earlier was done by their assistants which triggered protest by lawyers.
The meeting, attended by President of Advocates' Association and Coordination Committee Chairman Vindhyakeshri Kumar, Bar Association Chief Abhay Kumar Singh and Lawyers Association President Uma Shankar on Monday evening resolved to abstain from work till their demands were fulfilled.
