Senior Superintendent of Police Jitendra Rana said the police had received a tip off that one Aman Prateek of Rupaspur police station area was running an organisation promising jobs abroad against hefty cash.
There was also information that Prateek had taken his room partner hostage for a ransom of Rs 50,000 by tying him up, a release from SSP office said.
Acting on the tip off, the SSP constituted a team under city Superintendent of Police Shivdeep Lande and raided an apartment.
Besides seven passports, one laptop, three mobile handsets and fake documents regarding jobs were recovered from the flat, it said.
The SSP later told PTI that the police would also probe the case in the light of youths joining terror outfits after leaving the country.
