"I thoroughly disapprove egg throwing. This is not proper in democracy," Patnaik told reporters during his visit to Puri where opposition Congress and BJP supporters made an attempt to show black flags to the chief minister.
The police detained three BJP supporters at Satsankha under Pipili Police Station area when they were trying to show black flags at the chief minister on his way to Puri for attending a meeting.
Earlier during the day, four members of Puri Sachetan Nagarik Manch and two Congress activists were also detained by police ahead of the chief minister's visit to Puri.
Patnaik's statement on egg hurling came a day after police in Kendrapara district arrested seven persons on the charge of hurling eggs and showing black flags to Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram on June 14.
