Director Paul Greengrass, best known for helming three films in Matt Damon-starrer 'Bourne' series, will receive the BFI Fellowship at the 61st BFI London film festival.
The Oscar-nominated filmmaker will be felicitated with the BFI's highest honour for the "outstanding contribution to film and television" at the festival's award ceremony on October 14, reported Variety.
"As a filmmaker, Paul has been a true pioneer, bringing his instinct and experience from making hard-hitting programmes into the world of cinema," Josh Berger, chair of the BFI, said.
"His distinct ability to combine the visceral with the cerebral and offer a nuanced picture of heroism has injected a bold new realism into action thriller movies, leaving audiences around the world transfixed and eager for more."
The British filmmaker received an Academy Award nomination for his 2006 film "United 93," which also won him a BAFTA Film award for the best director.
"On a personal level, I'm particularly touched, as the BFI has always supported my career and 'Bloody Sunday' was financed through the National Lottery 15 years ago. Like so many people in our industry, I owe this wonderful organisation an enormous debt," Greengrass said.
