The 54-year-old celeb will be seen playing herself in the show and be a series regular should the pilot moves forward, confirmed The Hollywood Reporter.
The project is based on the Kang's life experiences as the only girl to grow up in a mixed-racial family set-up in the city of Philadelphia, who idolises Abdul.
Although this will be her first regular TV acting gig, she has been previously seen on the small screen in reality shows like "American Idol" and "So You Think You Can Dance".
