Pawar meets party MLAs to take stock of political situation

Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Sharad Pawar today met party legislators to take stock of the drought situation in Maharashtra as well as the prevailing political situation in the state.
Maharashtra state unit president Sunil Tatkare told reporters that Pawar was briefed about the stand taken by the NCP and the Congress on complete loan waiver for farmers during the legislative Assembly session.
"Pawar expressed concern about the long dry spell during the monsoon. It was decided to wait to wait until the end of this month and then decide what could be done to mitigate hardships of farmers and drinking water scarcity," Tatkare said.

He said that his party had put forth a proposal to the Congress for a post-poll alliance in Bhandara and Gondia zilla parishads.
"Since we were the single largest party in Gondia, we would get the zilla parishad president's post while the Congress can take the vice president's post. In Bhandara, since the Congress is the single largest party, they could get the zilla parishad president's post and the NCP could get the vice president's post. The Congress leadership has taken the party's Gondia unit's alliance with the BJP very seriously," Tatkare said.
He described the BJP-Congress alliance in Gondia as a "poor compromise". "The Congress has aligned with a party which has vowed to make India free from the Congress," he said.

Tatkare also targeted the Shiv Sena for not keeping up pressure on its ally BJP to write off farm loans.
