An official release quoting PSCPCR Chairman Sukesh Kalia said he has also asked Commissioner of Police Paramraj Singh Umra Nangal to submit the report by September 18.
Speaking to the Police Commissioner over phone, Kalia directed him to arrest the accused at the earliest. The chairman also asked the official to take a personal interest in the case and to submit a detailed plan about the steps taken by police regarding the safety of children in the city.
An 18-year-old girl was allegedly gangraped and murdered in this industrial town of Punjab.
The victim's father told the police that his daughter, who was a student of class XII, had gone to school on Wednesday but did not return home following which he filed a complaint on the same day.
The girl's naked body, legs tied with a piece of cloth, was recovered from Sidhwan canal at Barewal road here on Thursday.
