Congress today asked Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to release the purported letter written by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to the state government allegedly denying a special package to the state.
"Badal must release the letter to reassure the people that the package has not been denied," Punjab Congress Chief Partap Singh Bajwa said in a statement issued here.
The chief minister had yesterday asserted that the Narendra Modi Government never denied financial package to the state and accused some Congress leaders of indulging in "false propaganda" for their vested political interests.
Bajwa has asked the SAD-BJP led state government to come out with a fact sheet pertaining to the state of finances of last 10 years.
"This fact sheet should contain year wise amount of central funds received by the state, along with the schemes in case of tied funds, the amount spent from the same by the state government and for what purpose. The state government must also disclose as to what amount of finances the state government had sought from the Centre every year," he said.
The Congress leader said Badal should not forget that the UPA Government had empowered the people through the Right to Information Act and he can not suppress any information.
