The deceased has been identified as Bhagwan Singh (38), they said.
He owned an acre of land and Singh, his wife and two sons were dependent on it, according to police officials. Singh also had a loan of Rs 7 lakh, they said.
Singh's wife Rajwinder Kaur said that he was under stress for the last few days and had committed suicide.
A case has been registered under section 174 CRPC in this connection, police said.
