The minister said a decision was taken to constitute a three-member committee to strengthen the overall system of government polytechnic colleges. One member each from IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar, Maharaja Ranjit Singh University, Bathinda, and the technical education board would be part of this committee.
This committee would soon visit government polytechnic colleges and submit a detailed report about the infrastructure development, upgradation of courses and other requirements, the technical education minister said.
It was also decided to attach the performance of the technical education department staff with annual confidential reports (ACRs). The increment in pay and promotions would be based on their performance, he added.
Channi said the deployment of staff in the technical education department would be restructured and rationalised.
Apart from this, he said the practice of different cadres would end and there would be only one cadre in the department.
The minister also directed the colleges to ensure 100 per cent admission and results, and fix responsibility of non- performers.
