Advocating peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues between India and Pakistan, PDP today said the Narendra Modi government will have to follow re-conciliatory policies to restore peace in the region.
"The present NDA government headed by Narendra Modi has to follow peace and re-conciliatory policies pursued by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to restore sustainable and lasting peace in this region," PDP patron and former chief minister Mufti Mohammed Sayeed said while addressing an election rally in Bishnah today.
"Since its formation, PDP has been advocating peaceful resolution of all problems," he said.
Mufti said it was the result of the "visionary" policies of Atal Bihari Vajpayee that internal and external peace was restored in the region.
"It was during the tenure of PDP-led regime in the state that atmosphere was created to take some bold initiatives like opening of some points at LoC and release of political prisoners," he claimed.
"It was all due to our efforts that the then Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, during his historical speech at Srinagar, had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan despite the fact that tension was high on border at that time due to the attack on Parliament," he said.
"Vajpayee's speech was turning point in the relations between India and Pakistan and credit for this goes to PDP because successive regimes at Centre were convinced with our policies," he said.
Sayeed said Jammu and Kashmir is a "very complicated" issue so restoring peace in this region is possible only if the present NDA government would follow the footsteps of Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Mufti said PDP was formed to provide an alternative to the people of Jammu and Kashmir as the voters earlier had no choice but to vote for National Conference.
"We challenged the hegemony of National Conference and provided alternative to the people," he said.
Mufti said that agenda of PDP is to change the present "corrupt and inefficient" system.
"We want to establish a system of justice and equality and for this support of the people is must," he said. PTI TSS AB.
