"This is a loud and clear message to all political parties that people are supreme. They have shown it time and again, and they have had their reasons for it," PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar told PTI.
Asked if the results of Delhi elections would have any effect on its alliance with BJP for government formation in Jammu and Kashmir, Akhtar said the two issues were not connected.
"Our talks (with BJP) on government formation are for the betterment and development of Jammu and Kashmir. Delhi elections and the government formation here are not connected," he said.
The PDP spokesman said structured talks with BJP for government formation have not started yet. "We have given our outline for development of Jammu and Kashmir... The talks are ongoing and we are hopeful of arriving at a consensus on a common minimum programme."
The understanding for the Rajya Sabha polls between the two parties had indicated that PDP and BJP, the single largest and second largest party respectively in the state assembly, would speed up the process of government formation in the state.
The state is under Governor's Rule since January 8 after the December 23 results of the state elections threw up a hung assembly.
