The party had decorated the Flag Staff lane leading to Kejriwal's residence at Civil Lines with tricolour ballons and a gigantic LED screen to display results. Music system played songs composed specially for Punjab polls as volunteers danced to the tune.
The party's top brass---Manish Sisodia, Ashutosh, Sanjay Singh, Kapil Mishra, Kumar Vishwas---had gathered at the residence to monitor poll results.
However, as the initial poll trends started pouring in, the mood outside got pensive.
The tricolour balloons started coming off and the premise outside Kejriwal's residence wore a deserted look, with only police personnel and media persons in sight.
"We are disappointed with the results. We will introspect on the reasons behind the (poor) performance," senior AAP leader Ashutosh said.
While AAP had garnered votes in the name of Kejriwal in both the states, senior party leader Kumar Vishwas sought to defend the Chief Minister, saying the responsibility of the results was "collective".
The AAP bagged 20 seats in Punjab, a state which gave it four MPs in 2014 Lok Sabha elections, but the party lost all seats in Goa with its chief ministerial candidate Elvis Gomes coming fourth from Cuncolim.
