Animal rights body PETA today held a 'bloodless Jallikattu' here, opposing the Centre's reported intention to lift the ban on the traditional bull race and bull fights of similar kind.
At Jantar Mantar, PETA's volunteers staged the demonstration with two giant inflatable bull figures and urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to retain the prohibition on the event, held in Tamil Nadu.
PETA India said that there are reports that the Environment Ministry plans to amend The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, to allow these cruel spectacles despite Supreme Court banning them.
