The Madras High Court today directed the Tamil Nadu government to take necessary steps on a complaint by a PIL petitioner, who sought to restrain conversion of agricultural lands into housing plots, that he was allegedly threatened by a counsel for realtors.
Making a mention in the court, petitioner "Elephant" Rajendran submitted that after the conclusion of the hearing on his PIL and intervening pleas on Friday, he was threatened by the counsel for a realtor, who had sought relaxation of the court's earlier order banning registration of unapproved plots.
He submitted that he had already lodged a complaint with the police in this regard.
The court then orally directed state Additional Advocate General, present in the court, to take necessary steps on the complaint.
Rajendran also said despite the court's suggestion in the past to consider providing him security, the state government had stated that there was no threat to him and hence there was no need for providing any security.
On September 8, the court had banned registration of plots and houses, whose layout had not been approved, and conversion of agricultural land for non-farming purposes in an unplanned manner in the state.
