The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today arrested a senior Employee Provident Fund (EPF) officer for accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from the complainant, who had applied for release of funds from his account.
EPF enforcement officer Himesh Ranjan Prakash was caught red-handed in Vasco town, 40 kms from here accepting the sum as a token amount for the bribe, a CBI spokesman said.
Prakash was arrested after a trap was laid in the office of Metalife Marine Engineering Private Limited, where the accused was supposed to arrive to receive bribe.
"He had demanded Rs 60,000 from the complainant to release the EPF money. But the deal was struck to pay Rs 5,000 as an advance," the spokesman said.
Prakash has been brought to Panaji for further investigation.
