Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray today said a photographer should be judged by his capability to capture the right "moment" in his frame.
"Time and days pass by, but one should be able to remember the moments in a photograph and those who were not witness to it should rue what they missed," Uddhav, who is also a well-known photographer, said after inaugurating an exhibition of his father late Bal Thackeray's pictures, clicked by various photo-journalists, at the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh.
The Sangh has organised the photo exhibition of the late Sena supremo to mark his 89th birth anniversary today.
Uddhav said he had been avoiding requests to come to the Patrakar Sangh for media interaction, but since Bal Thackeray and photography were close to his heart, he accepted today's invitation.
He also thanked the Sangh committee members for referring him as an honourable member of the organisation. "I am the editor of 'Saamana' (Shiv Sena's mouthpiece), a responsibility which has come to me. I never shy away from taking up responsibilities," he said.
The Sena chief recalled that the relations between his father and the media were that of warmth and respect.
"The photographs on display show the unique side of Balasaheb. I am also there in some of the pictures. Days and times will go by, but looking at the pictures will make one remember the moment of the photograph and also those who were not in the picture will rue missing the moment," he said.
Uddhav said a photographer must know which moment to click.
"Just knowing how to handle a camera does not make one a photographer," he added.
Late Bal Thackeray was a member of the Mumbai Marathi Patrakar Sangh.
