Physical verification of all the tanneries in the district began during which information including the type of work, number of employees, discharge of used water etc are being gathered, District Magistrate Kaushal Raj Sharma said.
The report is being prepared in connection with an ongoing case of Ganga pollution with the NGT, he said.
The verification work is been done by officials of the Municipal corporation, Water corporation, Central Leather Research Institute, Pollution control board, police and district administration, Sharma said.
In a hearing, the green tribunal on October 7, said it was undisputable that 700 tannery industries in Kanpur were one of the highest sources of pollution in Ganga.
