With a petition raising the issue of grave inconvenience caused to the public due to traffic jams caused by VIP movements in the national capital, Delhi High Court today sought the response of the Centre, city government and police on the matter.
The petition, listed before a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath, refers to news reports on the instances of inconvenience, including women giving birth in public transportation as they could not reach hospital on time due to VIP movements.
The plea by Namrata Mukum, a lawyer, has sought that "corrective steps" be taken by the authorities "as the traffic situation in Delhi is getting worse because of VIP movements".
Referring to the reports, Namrata has sought directions to the authorities to "make a separate VIP corridor whenever there are major VIP movements in the city or an emergency corridor so that the general public's life and safety is not at stake".
The court has listed the matter for further hearing on February 17 next year.
