Infuriated over the incident, people of the area blocked traffic on Bareilly-Delhi highway for several hours, police said today. Shops in the area were also closed in protest.
Additional Superintendent of Police (rural) Brijesh Kumar Srivastava said that people got agitated when they found the place of worship desecrated in Sahukara Naugawan area this morning.
They blocked the traffic which was cleared after senior officers intervened and assured action, the ASP said, adding that an FIR has been registered against unidentified persons and the matter was being probed.
