Plans are afoot to hike the compensation to the families of informers who become target of Maoists while assisting security forces engaged in anti-Naxal offensives, official sources said.
Police informers are often targeted by the Naxals. At least 100 people, who are labelled as informers in nine Naxal affected states, are killed by the rebels every year.
At present, families of victims of terrorist, communal and Naxal violence get Rs 3 lakh under Central Scheme.
The assistance given to those who are adversely affected by naxal violence under this scheme is in addition to the ex-gratia payment of Rs one lakh paid under the Security Related Expenditure (SRE) scheme.
Substantial amount will be given to the families of police informers in addition to the amount given under the existing scheme, sources said.
