Delhi government will launch a week long city-wide cleanliness and sanitation movement along with a plantation drive to mark the 68th Independence Day of India, starting from tomorrow.
"As a part of the drive, municipal corporations will involve the citizens and students in this operation and everyone will participate in the cleaning of silt and malba and removal of garbage," LG house officials said today.
The Lt Governor also asked the civic bodies to pay attention to repairs of potholes and street lights and to the cleaning of schools, their toilets, and hospitals.
The railways too were asked to make efforts to clean their stations, platforms and tracks, officials said.
Further, the municipal corporations will also run a special "Information Education Campaign" to raise awareness about civic sense and this campaign will be taken forward by students, RWAs and other volunteers.
As part of this campaign, special prabhat-pheris will be taken out by school students. A specially conceived Gandhigiri campaign will also be run by students who will involve the community in raising awareness about cleanliness and hygiene, good practices and waste disposal.
Schools will organize special week-long activities around the theme 'Clean Delhi Green Delhi'.
"Other activities planned includes a massive plantation drive across the city in which 11 Lakh trees will be planted in various parts of the city. One Lakh tress will be planted by PWD, 3 Lakh trees in the Forest Area, 1 Lakh each by municipal corporations and the rest through participation through eco-clubs, RWAs and by general public.
Further, in a special event held at the Raj Niwas, senior officers of the LG Secretariat, Delhi government and Delhi police will pledge to donate their organs on August 14.
This programme will be aided by Delhi Government's Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences.
