A charitable trust of South Indian Film Artistes' Association has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking a direction to the police to file a case against three noted Tamil actors, including R Sarath Kumar, for alleged misappropriation of funds.
Nadigar Sangam Charitable Trust, represented by its Managing Trustee and actor Nazeer, has sought a direction to the police to register a case against Sarathkumar, Radharavi and Vagai Chandrasekar.
The petition alleged that the three actors, all former trustees of the trust, were involved in "misappropriation of funds to the tune of Rs 1.65 crore" during their tenure.
As per the audit report filed on February 29, there was "blatant violation of law and irregularities, causing huge loss of funds to the trust" during the tenure of the three as trustees, it claimed.
The police had "closed" a complaint filed by the trust on July 2 regarding the matter, stating that "no prima facie case was made out against the actors" and that was why the petitioner had approached the court, it said.
Unless and otherwise a direction for registration of the trust's complaint was ordered, the alleged misdeed of the accused, along with certain other unknown persons, would never come to light, the petition stated.
It accused the three actors of "criminal breach of trust, cheating, criminal conspiracy and misappropriation of trust funds".
