The Delhi High Court has sought response from the NCT government and the city police commissioner on a plea filed by a candidate seeking job as a driver in the police department for quashing of an FIR filled against him for allegedly submitting forged driving license.
Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva issued notices to the AAP government and the top cop while directing the Delhi Police to file a status report of the investigation in the case.
"Issue notice. Notice is accepted by Additional Public Prosecutor for the State who submits that the IO has written to the authorities to verify the factum of renewal of the disputed driving licence... Status report be filed before the next date of hearing," the court said.
The order came after advocate Surat Singh, appearing for the petitioner Diman Singh, told the court that the Delhi Police had advertised hundreds of posts of drivers in 2009 and selections were made of more than 240 drivers.
Later, these appointments were cancelled on the ground that there were allegations that the driver license submitted were forged and several FIRs were registered against these candidates, he said.
The lawyer said the allegations of forgery of the drivers license were false because the same authority renewed the very same licenses in the case of some of these candidates.
He alleged that more than seven years have passed since the registration of the FIRs and yet the investigation by the Delhi Police has not been completed.
In his petition, Diman Singh, a resident of Aligarh, said although he has submitted various documents to prove that his license was issued in a legal manner, the Delhi Police has not closed the case.
"The Delhi Police has conducted thorough investigation in the last seven years and yet they have found no incrementing material against the petitioner.
"Now after seven years of investigation, investigation officer is putting a pressure on petitioner by calling him to police station and asking him to write that he has committed the crime," the plea said.
