"The EPF (Employees' Provident Fund) ceiling is Rs 6,500. While salary has increased, this ceiling has remained same and therefore many employers are not contributing towards EPF," Suresh told reporters after chairing a review meeting with Tamil Nadu government officials.
His Ministry has been receiving request to "enhance" the ceiling at least up to Rs 10,000 which has to be "seriously considered," he said.
On his meeting with state officials today, he said the ESIC medical college and hospitals, coming up at Chennai and Coimbatore, will start functioning in 2013 and 2014 academic years, respectively.
The ESIC Board in its February 8 meeting would take up the demand from workers in the industrial hub of Sriperumbudur to set up a 100-bed hospital there.
