PM calls CMs of Telangana, MP tomorrow to discuss drought

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has invited Chief Ministers of Telangana and Madhya Pradesh for meetings tomorrow as part of his exercise to take stock of situation in 11 drought-hit states.
Modi will be meeting Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan separately, sources said here today.
These meetings are a part of the Prime Minister's exercise to review the situation in 11 drought-hit states.
He has already met the Chief Ministers of Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka on Saturday last.
During those meetings, the Prime Minister had said that the centre and the states would have to work together to mitigate the problems faced by the people due to the drought.
He had pitched for focus on medium and long term solutions for drought-proofing.
Modi laid stress on the use of technologies like remote sensing and satellite imaging for planning of water conservation and recharge structures.
He had also stressed the need for changing cropping patterns based on scientific advice, use of drip and sprinkler irrigation for increasing water use efficiency, community participation, especially women, for better water management.
The Prime Minister had also pressed the need for monitoring delivery of water through tankers in the affected areas, using technology such as GPS.
