"Saddened on the demise of LS MP and former Union Minister Shri Sultan Ahmed. My thoughts are with his family and supporters in this sad hour", the Prime Minister said in a statement.
Ahmed, 64, is survived by wife and two sons.
He was elected to the Lower House from Uluberia parliamentary constituency.
Ahmed had served as the Union Minister of State for Tourism in the UPA government headed by Manmohan Singh government.
