PM promises full support to quake-hit Nepal in reconstruction

Prime Minister Narendra Modi today promised full support to quake-hit Nepal in reconstruction efforts as former Nepalese Prime Minister and chairman of UCPN-Maoist party Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' met him here.
Modi also expressed the hope that Nepal would adopt at the earliest a new Constitution which enjoys the support of all sections of the society and helps build an inclusive, stable and prosperous country.
The two leaders discussed the political situation in Nepal and post-quake developments.
The Prime Minister reiterated India's commitment to fully support Nepal in letter and spirit in the reconstruction effort, a PMO statement said.
He also praised the people and the leadership of Nepal for their efforts in rebuilding Nepal after the grave tragedy.

Dahal thanked Modi for Indian assistance in the aftermath of two powerful earthquakes in Nepal earlier this year, including the pledge of USD 1 billion announced at the donors' conference in Kathmandu on June 25.

The Nepali leader briefed Modi on the Constitution drafting process in his country.
The Prime Minister appreciated the recent progress and expressed the hope that outstanding issues would be resolved at the earliest, so that the Constitution that is adopted enjoys the support of all sections of the society and helps build an inclusive, stable and prosperous Nepal, the statement said.
Dahal, who had led a decade-long armed movement in Nepal before joining mainstream politics about eight years ago, is here on a seven-day visit since July 14.

An India-baiter for years, he had last met Modi in Kathmandu during the Prime Minister's visit there in August last year.
After that meeting, he had expressed confidence that a "new chapter" has begun in Indo-Nepal ties as he found Modi "very clear" in his mind about supporting the ongoing peace process and economic progress there.
