Prime Minister Narendra Modi today pushed for expediting the tasks for welfare of tribals, especially granting them land titles, and underlined the need for speeding up work on infrastructure projects to improve connectivity in the eastern and northeastern parts.
He also asked officials concerned to urgently address grievances of customers of LPG and MTNL phone connections as he chaired the second interaction of PRAGATI (Pro-Active Governance and Timely Implementation), a platform for involving states in a direct conversation with the Prime Minister.
He defined the role of PRAGATI as a means to break the silos between various government agencies that impede decision making and said the key objective is to find ways to speed up government processes, according to a PMO statement.
In the course of interaction, Modi reviewed the work done for tribal welfare, especially giving land titles under the Forest Rights Act, it said.
He asked the officials to make use of satellite technology to expedite the process of identifying tribal habitations, the statement added.
Modi, in particular, emphasised the need for speeding up infrastructure projects to improve connectivity in the eastern and northeastern parts of the country. He said infrastructure development is the key to rapid development of the northeast.
He reviewed the progress of key railway projects in West Bengal and Assam besides that of the India-Myanmar-Thailand trilateral highway as he interacted with Indian Ambassadors in Yangon, Myanmar and Bangkok, Thailand.
Reviewing public grievances related to LPG distribution, he urged the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to resolve pending complaints at the earliest, and institute arrangements so that such complaints do not arise.
