Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of trying to "spread hatred" and vowed not to let Uttar Pradesh become a state of hatred.

He also asked the prime minister to waive the farmers' loans since he boasts of '56-inch chest'.

Addressing an election rally here, the Congress leader alleged that Modi was trying to "spread hatred". He, however, did not elaborate.

"Modi only makes promises, but we will work. The promise of giving employment to the youth has failed," Rahul said.

He said Modi should ensure jobs to the youth, failing which "they will send him packing to Gujarat (in 2019)."

Pointing out that the NDA government has given no loan waiver to farmers, the Congress leader said, "I challenge him, if he really has 56-inch chest, he should waive loans of farmers."

Referring to Modi's promise to waive loans if BJP forms the government in UP, Rahul said, "If he really wants to waive loans, he can do it immediately by calling a cabinet meeting and passing a proposal for the same. There is no need to form the government in UP for this."

In an apparent reference to businessman Vijay Mallya case, Rahul said while loans of capitalists who fled the country were waived, common man was forced to stand in the queue to withdraw their own money post-demonetisation.

He highlighted the promises made in Samajwadi Party-Congress (SP-Congress) alliance manifesto and said if their government was formed, people will be benefited.
