PNDT coordinator arrested, civil surgeon booked for graft

A PNDT coordinator was caught red-handed by sleuths of Punjab Vigilance Bureau for allegedly taking take a bribe of Rs 5,000 to allow smooth functioning of an ultrasound machine at a clinic in Barnala.
Complainant Dr Inderjit Kaur had alleged that civil surgeon Amita Goyal took possession of the Ultra Sound machine's register from the multi specialty hospital, run by Kaur, an official spokesperson said.
Later, Goyal along with one Pardeep Gupta, a Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PNDT) coordinator, demanded Rs 5,000 on a monthly basis from the complainant for smooth functioning of the machine at the clinic, they said.
Following a complaint, a trap was laid by the Vigilance Bureau and PNDT coordinator was nabbed while accepting the bribe.
A case has also been registered against Goyal in this regard, the spokesman added..
