"An SOG team arrested two people with 6.5 kg of opium worth Rs 1.30 lakh from the city railway station," Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) D C Solanki of the SOG told reporters here today.
The duo have been identified as Mohammad Firoz Ghulam Nabi Chhipa (38) and his aide Mohammad Mohsin Usmangani Chhipa (22), both resident of Udaipur town in Rajasthan, police said.
On a specific tip-off that the contraband was being taken from Rajasthan via Gujarat to Kerala, police kept a watch over a city railway station and nabbed the duo, Solanki said.
"During further questioning by the SOG, Mohammad Firoz confessed that he was caught with 7 kg opium in the year 2004 from Rajasthan and wanted in a 50 kg opium seizure case by the Kerala Excise Department," Solanki said.
Suspecting a larger conspiracy, the SOG has initiated a further probe.
The SOG is likely to produce the accused in the court seeking remand tomorrow, the officer said.
