Police resorted to lathicharge to disperse the agitating members of 'Ummidwar Anusewak Sangh' who were demanding regularisation of their service as 4th grade employee in Bihar's Rohtas district today with the protestors claiming at least 12 people being injured in the action.
The Anusewaks (daily wage staff discharging the duty of 4th grade employee) were protesting under the banner of 'Ummidwar Anusewak Sangh' at the Collectorate after locking its main gate when the incident took place.
SDO Sasaram, the district headquarters of Rohtas, Amarendra Kumar confirmed the use of lathicharge to disperse the protesting people but denied anyone getting injured in the incident.
Kumar said police used mild baton after the efforts to pacify the agitators failed but none was injured.
Police have detained around 60 people.
Ummidwar Anusewak Sangh President Murli Ram, however, claimed at least 12 of their members were injured in lathicharge and had to be admitted to clinics.
Ram said they were holding peaceful dharna for past 15 days in front of the Collectorate to press for their demands of regularisation of their service as 4th grade employee but today the police acted in a brutal manner and lathicharged the protesting Anusewaks.
He said there are more than 300 such Anusewaks working as fourth grade employee on daily wage in various Collectorate for more than 10 years.
