The accused, Naushad was allegedly involved in more than 20 cases of robberies and targeted mostly morning walkers all across the city, police said.
He was absconding since June 2015 after the incident at Ashok Vihar in which he, along with his three associates, allegedly robbed two businessmen of their belongings, they said.
When the robbers were about to escape in their motorbikes, they met with an accident and one of them died.
Acting on a tip-off that armed members of the gang would come in the area of Vivek Vihar via underpass of Jhilmil Colony, police laid a trap and apprehended Naushad yesterday while others managed to escape, police said.
Police have recovered two stolen motorcycle form his possession and search is on to nab the rest of the gang members, police said.
